The Focus team are backing residents in their campaigns to get street lights switched back on. Over half of street lights have been switched off in a cost cutting measure by the Conservative run County Council. Lib Dems said money could be saved in other ways, without making our streets feel unsafe at night.

We have succeeded in getting the lights put back on on the Racecourse, where whole rows of lights installed only 3 years ago were switched off for a few nights in July. Huge opposition from residents, Friends of the Racecourse and the Police got the lights switched back on.  We also managed to get one light switched back on in Arthur St, but we needed more lights to make the entrances to the flats safer.

Elsewhere, residents objections in Trinity Avenue, Highfield Rd and Chaucer St were ignored by the County Council.
