Raeburn school

by admin on 6 January, 2008

The County Council has decided to market the site of Raeburn Special School after the school has moved to its new site at Tiffield. Local residents are campaigning to keep the site for community use. There are no childrens play areas or community facilities in the area. The Focus team are supporting the campaign and Richard Church has spoken up at a recent County Council meeting in support of a petition presented by local community activist Karen Lennon.

I would like to know if any decisions have been made about the Raeburn school site. Although our property backs on to the site we have not received any communications from any areas about the future of the site. My concerns are that careful consideration be given to what is actualyy to be built taking into account the importance of the nursery school and the lower school already established. The safety of the children must be paramount. particularly considering the access.

I feel that the site would possible best used for elderly care e.g. residential care incorporating sheltered housing with landscaped gardens. Pssibly to include a community centre for the use of al th local residents.o

  2. No decisions have yet been taken on the Raeburn school site, except for the County Council to declare it surplus to their requirements for educational purposes. Part of the playing fields will be transferred to the Primary School.

I agree that whatever is done with the remainder needs to be designed very carefully, considering the access to the nursery school, and community facilities need to be included in any new development.
